4 remaining free agents with New York Giants connections

Several players who were members of the New York Giants roster a season ago are still on the free agent market. Would, or should, the Giants consider bringing any of these players back?

CB Adoree’ Jackson

Connection: Adoree’ Jackson signed with the New York Giants in 2021 after spending his first four NFL seasons (2017-2020) with the Tennessee Titans.

Stats: In his Giants career, Jackson recorded 4 interceptions, 30 passes defended, and 158 tackles.

Why he may not Fit: Jackson’s performance as a Giant was inconsistent. Even though position of need aligns here, the money Jackson would command with the age and injury concerns does not sound like a move the Giants need to make. Rookie Dru Phillips is wearing the No. 22 formerly worn by Jackson.

G Mark Glowinski

Connection: Glowinski signed with the Giants in 2022 after spending time with the Indianapolis Colts and the Seattle Seahawks.

Stats: Glowinski started in 16 games for the Giants in 2022 and six games in 2023, allowing 11 sacks and 7 penalties over 1,566 snaps.

Why he might not fit: While Glowinski brings experience, his fit with the Giants depends on their assessment of their current offensive line depth. The Giants signed five veteran free agent offensive linemen during the offseason, and still may add one or both of Justin Pugh and Tyre Phillips.

G Justin Pugh

Connection: Pugh was drafted by the New York Giants in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft and played with them for five seasons (2013-2017) before joining the Arizona Cardinals. Pugh was signed midseason last year to help a injury riddled Giants offensive line, and he played both left guard and left tackle.

Stats: Pugh started in 12 games for the Giants in 2023. The former first round pick gave up eight sacks and committed five penalties in over 700 snaps played.

Why he might not fit: Pugh, 34 this season, was inconsistent last season as he came back from a major knee injury. The Giants may prefer to focus on younger, healthier options to bolster their linet. If the Giants were going to bring back anyone on this list, though, Pugh would be my pick.

RB Matt Breida

Connection: Breida played for the San Francisco 49ers, the Miami Dolphins and later the Buffalo Bills before signing with the Giants for the last two seasons.

Stats: In two seasons with New York, Breida had 109 attempts for 371 yards and 2 touchdowns for the Giants starting in 5 games.

Why he might not fit: Breida hasn’t consistently produced at a high level in recent seasons. Additionally, his fit may not align with the Giants’ current priorities, particularly if they aim to develop younger running backs like Tyrone Tracy Jr., Eric Gray, and Dante Miller.
