4 ruled out, 3 questionable in Giants vs. Commanders | Sporting News

The New York Giants (0-1) and Washington Commanders (0-1) released their final injury reports with designations Friday ahead of the Week 2 matchup at Northwest Stadium.

While the Giants had a slight scare with one of their stars in wide receiver Malik Nabers, they ruled out three players ahead of the game. None of the other players on the injury report carry designations into the weekend.

On the other side, the Commanders have a trio of players listed as questionable with one defensive starter being ruled out for the divisional matchup.

Both the Giants and Commanders are trying to shake off Week 1 losses. The Giants specifically are looking to put their ugly 28-6 loss as far behind them as possible.

We’ll make any updates to this if either team makes changes to their injury reports Saturday, but these are the players with injury designations for the Week 2 matchup.

Giants vs. Commanders Week 2: Full injury designations

New York Giants

Out

  • CB Nick McCloud (knee)
  • LB Darius Muasau (knee)
  • WR Gunner Olszewski (groin)

None of the three players ruled out for this game logged any practice throughout the week. McCloud being out means the Giants will rely on Cor’Dale Flott on the outside. Muasau, the team’s sixth-round pick, being out means the Giants have three healthy linebackers, including Isaiah Simmons, whose role was non-existent in Week 1. Olszewski suffered his injury during warmups in Week 1.

No Designation

  • WR Malik Nabers (knee)
  • LB Micah McFadden (groin)
  • WR Darius Slayton (concussion)

Nabers popped up on the injury report Thursday as a limited participant but was upgraded to full and will be ready to go. McFadden was a full participant all week, and Slayton was upgraded to full participant Friday so he should be good to go.

Washington Commanders

Out

  • CB Emmanuel Forbes (thumb)

The Commanders’ first-round pick in 2023, Forbes suffered a torn UCL in his thumb and needed surgery. If the Giants can’t take advantage of an even weaker secondary, it will be an extremely tough look.

Questionable

  • DT Johnny Newton (foot/rest)
  • CB Quan Martin (hamstring)
  • DE Clelin Ferrell (knee)

Newton is a highly touted rookie who could make his debut against the Giants this week. He was the No. 36 overall pick but would have been a first-rounder if not for the surgery to repair a Jones fracture. Martin and Ferrell were full participants until Friday. Martin was limited and Ferrell didn’t practice.

No Designation

  • TE Zach Ertz (rest)
  • DB Tyler Owens (ankle)
  • G Brandon Coleman (shoulder)
  • RB Brian Robinson (knee)
  • OT Trent Scott (knee)

All of these players were full participants during Friday’s practice so they carry no designations going into the weekend.
