49ers Home Opener Set for Week 1 vs. New York Jets on ‘MNF’
The San Francisco 49ers are kicking off the year at Levi’s® Stadium and in primetime! For the first time since 2020, the red and gold will begin their season at home as they welcome in the New York Jets for a “Monday Night Football” matchup.
This upcoming clash marks the 15th time these two franchises will battle it out on the gridiron. San Francisco leads the series 11-3 all-time and has won three of their last four meetings dating back to Week 14 of the 2008 season. However, both franchises have undergone several changes since 2020 including new starting quarterbacks on both sides and, for the Jets, hiring former 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh as head coach ahead of the 2021 season. The 49ers offense is headed up by quarterback Brock Purdy since Week 13 of the 2022 season while New York awaits the return of quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who suffered a season-ending Achilles injury during Week 1 of the 2023 season.
And while we’re on the subject of Saleh, San Francisco’s Week 1 matchup is one of five games in which head coach Kyle Shanahan will face former assistants of his throughout the season (Green Bay Packers – Matt LaFleur, Miami Dolphins – Mike McDaniel, Los Angeles Rams – Sean McVay and Jets – Saleh).
Tickets are available now for the Jets vs. 49ers Week 1 primetime clash.
