5 Giants who risk losing their job with a poor performance vs. Jets
The New York Giants will face their MetLife Stadium co-tenants, the New York Jets, in the preseason finale on Saturday night.
With final roster cuts due on Tuesday, players on the bubble will get one more shot to make their case for a roster spot.
Here are five players who need to play well on Saturday night or run the risk of being cut.
The Giants love the veteran presence that Allen Robinson has brought to the wide receiver room, but that room could prove to be too crowded to have a one-dimensional player at this point.
If it comes down to Robinson and a younger player who adds value on special teams, he could find himself on the outs.
Chris Manhertz didn’t promise to bring a lot to the passing game to begin with and was signed to be a blocking tight end. Unfortunately, the Giants have four other tight ends who can catch the football in Daniel Bellinger, Theo Johnson, Lawrence Cager, and Jack Stoll.
The addition of fullback Jakob Johnson is pushing Manhertz even further.
“Turbo” has been great but he’s been a little banged up and fallen behind the group. With Devin Singletary and Eric Gray bringing it and Tyrone Tracy Jr. healthy again, Dante Miller could be a roster casualty, especially with veteran Joshua Kelley in camp.
Isaiah Hodgins is an NFL-level receiver, but he is in the same boat as Allen Robinson — not one of their young core and not a special teams ace. With Miles Boykin on the roster and making his presence known on special teams, Hodgins needs to make some noise … and soon.
D.J. Davison has struggled to stay healthy which has led to him being inconsistent. The emergence of rookie Elijah Chatman and the presence of two other former Oregon Ducks (Jordon Riley, Casey Rogers) has Davidson in need of a good showing this week.
