76ers vs Knicks: Injury Report, Depth Chart, and More Ahead Emirates NBA Cup Opener

The second edition of the NBA Cup is all set to kick off with an exciting matchup between two rivals! Apart from the rivalry aspect, there’s another crucial update that will attract a lot of eyeballs to the game. It’s the return of the big man, Joel Embiid, after a controversial 9-game absence. So, there’s plenty to look forward to in tonight’s match-up, as the Cameroonian center joins the bruised Philadelphia 76ers. Meanwhile, the new-look NY Knicks also have their own set of problems.

After the big Karl-Anthony Towns‘ addition, giving up two important assets to the Wolves, the NY side has had an underwhelming run. They currently stand in the sixth seed with a 4-5 record. Despite the consistent effort from the offensive leaders, the team has struggled to keep the winning habits consistent. One of the main reasons for the situation is the lack of depth. While Josh Hart, Donte DiVincenzo, and Isaiah Hartenstein took care of the second unit last season, the team lost quite a few assets.

In this season, Miles McBride looked like one of the trusted reserves of Coach Thibs. The 24-year-old guard had a promising start to the season, averaging 12.8 ppg in the first 5 games. Unfortunately, the team listed him in the Questionable category, citing left knee inflammation. Apart from McBride, the team listed out Cameron Payne and Precious Achiuwa for tonight, further dampening the Knicks’ depth.

On the other hand, the Philly fans finally have some to cheer about, as Joel Embiid is expected to lace up after missing 9 games, recovering from his knee injury, and serving a 3-game suspension. Importantly, he will also play alongside Paul George for the first time since the trade. However, the fans have to wait for a while until Tyrese Maxey returns from the hamstring injury to witness all three in action together. Other than that, the 76ers have a healthy roster.

76ers vs Knicks: Starting lineup and Depth chart

It’s a really interesting way to start off the NBA Cup campaign with the Knicks-Sixers rivalry! Last season, both teams toiled hard at the First Round of the Eastern Conference with the series going and forth and finally, the NY side taking it home. So much has changed within these two sides over the last few days with plenty of exclusion and a few important additions.

More importantly, Joel Embiid played his NBA against the Knicks where he was eliminated in Game 6. So, it’s a double treat for the big man. Firstly, to take revenge on the Knicks and to make a sound entry into the new season.
