JETTIN’ JACKRABBIT: New York Jets select SDSU’s Isaiah Davis in NFL Draft’s fifth round
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – As expected Isaiah Davis is South Dakota State’s latest in a string of All-American rushers to go into the NFL, being selected by the New York Jets with the 173rd overall pick in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft on Saturday afternoon, where he will likely follow in the footsteps of Zach Zenner and Pierre Strong Jr. and become the latest Rabbit to carry the rock in the National Football League.
The Joplin, Missouri, native first came to Brookings during the spring 2020-21 season and, once getting more chances to run after Strong got dinged up, immediately started running over the FCS.
In four seasons Isaiah ran for 4,548 yards and 50 touchdowns, third all-time in program history in both categories. He also hauled in 53 passes for 487 yards and a score.
Davis is the 35th Jackrabbit to be taken in the NFL Draft joining teammate Mason McCormick who was selected one round earlier by the Pittsburgh Steelers. It’s the sixth time in SDSU history a pair of Jackrabbits were selected in the same time and the second time it has happened in the last three seasons.
