New York Giants take quarterback with top pick in 2025 NFL mock draft | Sporting News
Is it way too early for a 2025 NFL mock draft for the New York Giants? Yes. Are we still going to talk about one? Also, yes.
The dust is still settling from the conclusion of the 2024 NFL draft, and the Giants came away with a six-player haul. This included additions like wide receiver Malik Nabers, safety Tyler Nubin and cornerback Andru Phillips.
One position the Giants opted against drafting was quarterback. Though they made an offer to move up to the No. 3 spot, that deal didn’t go through.

This means the Giants will be running it back with Daniel Jones, who is recovering from an ACL tear, and Drew Lock, who was signed in free agency.
2025 NFL mock draft: Giants grab QB with top pick
In a way-too-early mock draft from Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz of USA TODAY, the Giants held the No. 1 pick based on 2024 win total projections.
With that pick, the Giants addressed their biggest long-term need by taking a chance on Georgia quarterback Carson Beck.
Unlike this point last year with Caleb Williams and Drake Maye, there’s no quarterback out there who looks to be a surefire top-five pick. Beck, however, might be the front-runner to be the highest signal-caller taken – and therefore in the mix for No. 1. The 6-4, 220-pound passer stepped into his first year as a starter and took command, throwing for 3,941 yards while completing nearly 73% of his passes.
Beck’s arm strength can help bring back a big-play element that has long been absent for New York with Daniel Jones at the helm. But the Georgia standout is also a precise and on-schedule operator, which should allow him to form a potent connection with 2024 first-round receiver Malik Nabers, an electric threat after the catch.
With an off ramp to Jones’ contract available after this season, Big Blue could end up moving quickly to admit fault on the extension and change course. Beck might make for an attractive option to which the team could pivot, especially after reports that the team made a serious push to try to move up for Drake Maye.
The Giants made it clear by not forcing a quarterback pick in the draft that they are willing to roll the dice with a combination of Jones and Lock under center if needed.
Whether the current regime of Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll would survive a season that results in obtaining the No. 1 overall pick is an entirely different question altogether. It might be a hard sell for Schoen and Daboll if they follow up a 6-11 season in 2023 with an even worse campaign in 2024.
There’s still a long time until the 2025 draft arrives, but expect the quarterback position to be the driving force behind discussions regarding the Giants.
