With the 2024 NFL draft now in the rearview, the New England Patriots are looking to fine-tune their roster and fill some of their smaller holes with veterans and undrafted rookies.
On Tuesday, the Patriots announced that they’ve signed linebacker Oshane Ximines.
Ximines, 27, was drafted by the New York Giants in the third round of the 2019 NFL draft following a collegiate career at Old Dominion that included two First-team All-C-USA seasons.
In five seasons with the Giants, Ximines never played more than 51% of the team’s defensive snaps, but he did contribute on special teams. He recorded 71 tackles (nine for a loss) 24 quarterback hits, 6.5 sacks, six passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
New England didn’t add anything to the outside linebacker/edge rusher room this offseason, but they did keep Anfernee Jennings and Josh Uche, who were both unrestricted free agents.
If Ximines wants a roster spot with the Patriots, he’ll have to play in the third phase of the game and be able to spell the starters if needed.
