The New York Giants are coming out of the 2024 NFL Draft with a six-player class, but there are still some moves to be made with the salary cap.
Coming out of the draft and into post-draft free agency, the Giants are likely going to need to move some money around.
According to Over The Cap, the Giants have $5.45 million in salary-cap space but are $384,645 over the limit in effective salary-cap space. Effective cap space essentially is the amount of cap space the team has to work with after including the top 51 contracts. It includes rookie contracts.
The Giants, according to OTC, are one of three teams with negative effective salary-cap space. Fortunately, moving around that kind of money shouldn’t be an issue for general manager Joe Schoen.
The Giants also are waiting on the decision from tight end Darren Waller in regard to his NFL future. If he retires, the Giants would take on a $7.4 million dead-cap hit but they would also save $6.7 million in cap space.
It’s unlikely the Giants make many moves in free agency following the draft unless some big restructures come from the front office.
