The
New York Giants
signed wide receiver Allen Robinson in free agency, the team announced Thursday.
After adding to the wide receiver room by selecting
Malik Nabers
with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Giants added a veteran to the room in the form of Robinson.
There’s no guarantee Robinson will make the roster, but he does provide some competition on the outside with players like Darius Slayton and Isaiah Hodgins.
Robinson enjoyed a stellar start to his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars as a second-round pick in 2014. In his first three seasons, he earned a Pro Bowl nod (2015) while averaging 67 receptions for 943.7 yards and 7.3 touchdowns per season.
His 2015 season was spectacular when he recorded 80 receptions for 1,400 yards and 14 touchdowns. He tore his ACL in Week 1 of the 2017 season.
As a free agent in 2018, Robinson signed a three-year deal worth $42 million with the Chicago Bears. His first season didn’t go all that well, but Robinson posted receiving lines of 98-1147-7 in 2019 and 102-1250-6 in 2020.
Robinson has yet to return to form in the three seasons to follow. His time in Chicago fizzled out in 2021, and he then joined the Los Angeles Rams (2022) and Pittsburgh Steelers (2023). He hasn’t recorded more than 34 receptions or 339 yards in either of his last two seasons.
Robinson will provide a veteran presence in a room full of young receivers while he works to earn a roster spot.
