NFL star who was left unemployed by brutal cut lands lifeline with Giants

VETERAN NFL wide receiver Allen Robinson has received a career lifeline with the New York Giants.

Robinson, 30, was recently released in brutal fashion by the Pittsburgh Steelers in a cost-cutting move.

He has signed a one-year deal with the Giants, who are looking to add more depth to their offense.

The Giants have numerous wideouts on their roster including Darius Slayton, Jalin Hyatt, Wan’Dale Robinson, Isaiah McKenzie and Isaiah Hodgins.

New York also drafted LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers No. 6 overall in the NFL Draft. 

Robinson is coming off a disappointing season for the Steelers.

The 6-foot-2, 220-pounder started all 17 games for the Steelers in 2023, recording with 34 receptions for 280 yards – but no touchdowns.

Prior to his spell at the Steelers, Robinson played for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Chicago Bears and Los Angeles Rams.

His best season came in 2015, when he had 80 receptions for 1,400 yards and 14 touchdowns for the Jaguars.

That year, the former Penn State star earned his only Pro Bowl selection.

Robinson has earned over $95 million in his career.

The move comes with the Giants adding yet another quarterback to their roster.

The Giants claimed Nathan Rourke off of waivers on Tuesday from the New England Patriots.

Rourke, who spent time in the Canadian Football League, actually tried out as a wide receiver for the Giants during rookie minicamp in 2021.

He was undrafted out of Ohio University in 2021, but made his way into the NFL after impressing in the CFL.

Rourke spent three seasons at Ohio, passing for 7,457 yards with 60 touchdowns and only 20 interceptions.

The QB owns the CFL single-season completion percentage record with a 78.7 percent measure on his passes in 2022.

He was named Most Outstanding Canadian that year even though he missed eight games but still threw 25 touchdowns.

In his CFL career he started 12 games and threw for 4,103 yards with 28 touchdowns and 15 interceptions.

Rourke spent time on the Jaguars practice squad last season before ending up with the Patriots later in the season.

The 25-year-old quarterback was the fifth player of his position on the roster in New England after the team drafted Drake Maye with the third overall pick and Joe Milton in the sixth round.

The Patriots also had Jacoby Brissett and Bailey Zappe on the roster to compete with.

The Giants quarterback room currently consists of Daniel Jones, Drew Lock, Tommy DeVito, and now Rourke.
