Amtrak services on or close to schedule between Philly, NYC after being temporarily disrupted

NEW YORK (WPVI) — Amtrak services between Philadelphia and New York City are working to get back to normal schedules Thursday morning after being temporarily disrupted due to downed overhead powerlines.

Delays are expected on Northeast Corridor service between the two cities after several trains were canceled.

Thousands were left stranded overnight Wednesday between New York City and Washington D.C. due to the issue.

Action News Traffic reporter Matt Pellman said some services, including New Jersey Transit are still delayed or canceled as of 7 a.m.

Amtrak also said power is restored on one track but that there are still delays due to speed restrictions and rail congestion.

Extensive delays began just after 5:30 p.m. Wednesday when Amtrak announced downed powerlines between Newark and New York Penn Station.

Both Amtrak and New Jersey Transit were operating very limited service out of Penn Station late Wednesday after downed power lines led to delays.

At 9:30 p.m. Amtrak announced that personnel had restored power on one track between New York and Newark. However, it remains unclear when service will fully resume along the Northeast Corridor.

Several commuter services closer to New York City were also impacted, including New Jersey Transit.
