The biggest move the New York Giants made this offseason should pay dividends both immediately and in the future.
The acquisition of edge rusher Brian Burns earlier in the offseason was met with plenty of praise after the Giants traded for the 26-year-old in March.
That stellar move by general manager Joe Schoen received more high marks from Vinnie Iyer of Sporting News, who called it the best move the Giants made this offseason.
The Giants needed to get some impact pass-rush help opposite Kayvon Thibodeaux and Burns can end up being more disruptive and productive in their scheme than he was in Carolina.
Having Burns working on the edge opposite Thibodeaux is the recipe for a lethal combination. Burns is one of the most consistent pass-rushers in the NFL. He has at least 8.0 sacks in each of the last four seasons and has never recorded fewer than 7.5 sacks throughout his career.
The lengthy speed rusher also has recorded at least 50 total pressures in three of the last four seasons, according to Pro Football Focus.
With Burns working opposite Thibodeaux on the edge and the All-Pro talent of Dexter Lawrence commanding attention on the interior, there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic about the Giants’ pass rush in 2024.
