New York Giants QB addition among NFL’s worst offseason moves | Sporting News
The New York Giants have plenty of question marks surrounding the quarterback position entering the 2024 season.
Though starter Daniel Jones is on the right trajectory to be ready for Week 1 of the regular season, the team signed Drew Lock in free agency as a backup plan.
Lock, who has started five games over the last two seasons, signed a $5 million deal with the Giants for the 2024 season.

Vinnie Iyer of Sporting News wasn’t too bullish on the signing, naming it the team’s worst offseason move.
It’s less the price tag of adding the former Bronco and Seahawk at $5 million for one season and more the principle of being wishy-washy about their feelings on Daniel Jones’ starting status. Is Lock a contingency or a fallback plan minus any real movement on trying to replace Jones with another franchise passer? It’s still difficult to know.
Lock is going to be the primary backup to Jones whenever he’s healthy enough to take all the starting reps. Through OTAs, Jones has worked with the first-team offense in 7-on-7s but remains sidelined during 11-on-11 drills.
Lock has shown some spotty accuracy during OTAs, but he has shown some flashes as a spot starter at times throughout his career.
The Giants face a lot of questions at the quarterback position this offseason, and Lock seemingly remains one of them.
