Does New York Giants HC Brian Daboll have hottest seat in NFL? | Sporting News

New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll enters a crucial Year 3 with the difficult task of turning around a team that is coming off a 6-11 season.

Since the departure of former head coach Tom Coughlin, no head coach for the Giants has finished a third consecutive season.

Despite making the playoffs during his first season at the helm in 2022, it seems Daboll’s seat is already warming up.

While it may not be the hottest seat in the NFL (that honor belongs to Robert Saleh), Daboll came in as the coach with the second-hottest seat in the league, according to Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports.

Few current coaches have seen their stock rise and fall in such a short period of time. Appropriately crowned Coach of the Year for rejuvenating Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley en route to a surprise playoff win in 2022, Daboll was far more mercurial as a leader and situational play-caller amid his roster’s rash of injuries in 2023. After exiling strong-willed defensive coordinator Wink Martindale, he’ll be charged with reviving Jones once more, and securing commitment from a club that hasn’t kept a coach for more than two years since Tom Coughlin.

It is a bit wild that Daboll is already being considered a hot-seat head coach, but that’s life in the NFL.

Giants owner John Mara has stated recently that they are sticking by Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen, but owners change their tunes on a whim.

It’s difficult to see the current regime lasting through another 6-11 season, but something also needs to be said about giving them the chance to create their own culture with the players they want. They are still very much dealing with the rosters and decisions of past regimes.

Only time will tell what the future holds for Daboll, but the national perspective seems to be that he has one of the hottest seats in the NFL.
