York armed forces to go head to head in free football festival

Celebrate sport and service in this brand new football festival in York.

The inaugural competition will see teams from the British Army going head-to-head with the North Yorkshire Police in a duo of football matches – who will come out on top?

The Armed Forces Day 2024 Football Fest is coming to the LNER Community Stadium on Saturday 6 July, from 11am to 5pm. It is sponsored by LNER.

The tournament is part of the Armed Forces Day celebrations that are taking place in the city.

Armed Forces Day (Saturday 29 June) is a chance for communities to show support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community – from currently serving personnel, to Service families, veterans and cadets.

The Ladies’ and Men’s teams will be made up of members of local military personnel, the ‘York Garrison’, who will be up against the North Yorkshire Police.

The Ladies’ match will kick off at 12pm, with the Men’s match starting at 2:30pm.

As well as football action, there will also be children’s entertainment, music and live performances happening in the stadium grounds.

Pre-booking for the event is essential, but it is a free event due to the sponsorship from LNER and other local businesses. Free tickets can be booked here.
