The best memories of the Giants’ legends and what they can teach the current team
Many of them have not been teammates for quite some time. There were plenty of flecks of gray up top and noticeably slower gaits as so many former Giants players assembled last Thursday night for one of the most impressive gatherings in franchise history.
It was billed as “A Night With Legends,’’ and it was indeed that — and more. The event, held at The Theater at Madison Square Garden, was in many ways the official kickoff to the 100-year anniversary celebration the Giants will continue to unveil throughout the 2024 season.
“I haven’t been playing for 100 years, let’s get that straight,’’ Lawrence Taylor, the best Giants player ever, cracked, unlit cigar in hand, as he arrived on the red carpet. “I am happy to be a part of the 100th-year anniversary. Just a lot of good players here, a lot of good older players. Happy and grateful to talk to them and have fun. That’s all I want to do is have fun.’’
Oh, they had fun. Any time Taylor, Phil Simms, Michael Strahan, Eli Manning and several other Giants luminaries are under the same roof, be prepared for tales and exaggerations and poignant memories to delight fans of all ages.
