The New York Giants are looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2023 season that saw them miss the postseason. The organization believes in the foundation that saw them win a playoff game in 2022 and is looking to duplicate that success this year. New York added some talent on both sides of the ball and should be a competitive team in the NFC East. They aren’t seen as one of the favorites but will have some say in how the division shakes out.

New York still has starting quarterback Daniel Jones under center, and he is looking to get himself back on track. Last season, Jones only played in six games, throwing for 909 yards with two touchdowns and six interceptions. Compared to his impactful 2022 season that saw him throw for 3,205 yards with 15 touchdowns and five interceptions, Jones had a very down 2023.

During the first episode of Hard Knocks: Offseason with the New York Giants, Giants general manager Joe Schoen made some interesting comments about Jones. Jones signed a massive extension last offseason despite only showing one successful season of football in the NFL.
“This is the year for Daniel. Plan all along was [to] give him a couple years. Is he our guy for the next 10 years? Or do we need to pivot and find somebody else?”
The play of Jones this year will determine his future with the Giants and possibly in the league. If he can’t perform up to par, Jones could be relegated as a backup around the NFL moving forward. He has the skills to be a successful quarterback but hasn’t been able to put it all together except for one season. Jones had a solid running game and decent defense in 2022, helping to lead the Giants to the postseason. The expectations are clear for Jones in 2024, and Schoen didn’t hold back on his thoughts about his role this year.
“You’re paying the guy (Jones) $40 million,” Giants general manager Joe Schoen said. “It’s not to hand the ball off to a $12 million back.”
The Giants are banking on Jones returning to form this year, but nothing is guaranteed. They hope he can show up once again and earn the contract they gave him. But if not, New York will start looking for different options to push this franchise forward.
