CBS lists Giants cornerback as 2024 breakout candidate
New York Giants’ third-year cornerback Cor’Dale Flott has been named a potential 2024 breakout candidate by CBS Sports. Flott was the only Giant to earn a spot on the list, though linebacker Micah McFadden received an honorable mention.
Flott was in good company at cornerback. Three corners made the list: Flott and two former first-round picks, Christian Gonzalez of the Patriots and Derek Stingley Jr. of the Texans. Here is the excerpt on Flott:
Flott would have been a member of my better than team coming into the draft had I written one, so there is some bias at play here. The reality is that a slot cornerback was needed for this team and the honorable mention cornerbacks and safety profiled more in other roles. Flott is worth a flier as he takes on an expanded role.
Flott may receive a larger role than just slot cornerback. He’s played 432 slot snaps and 317 boundary snaps in his career, but Dru Phillips may receive the first crack in the slot. It appears that Flott will initially compete with Nick McCloud and a few others for starting cornerback opposite Deonte Banks.
The Giants did not resign cornerback Adoree’ Jackson during the offseason. Phillips is sporting the number 22 Jackson wore as a Giant. Jackson’s departure provides Flott with an excellent opportunity to start on Shane Bowen’s defense. He’s still only 22 years old and will look to seize the opportunity in training camp.
