Healthy Andrew Thomas would be a difference-maker for Giants

The New York Giants need to be better on the offensive line in 2024 than they were a year ago. To do that, they need a healthy Andrew Thomas. Regardless of what else happens, if Thomas can be healthy and play the way he did in 2022 when he was a second-team All-Pro, the line should improve.

Career to date

Thomas was the fourth overall pick by the Giants in the 2020 NFL Draft. After a horrid rookie season, he has become the Giants’ best offensive lineman and one of the league’s premier left tackles.

Thomas was a second-team All-Pro in 2022, when he compiled a 90.3 Pro Football Focus grade, third-best among all NFL tackles, and allowed just four sacks and 23 total pressures while earning a 97.9 pass-blocking efficiency score.

Thomas struggled with injuries in 2023, playing just 10 games — many of those at less than 100%. He suffered a hamstring injury on a blocked field goal in Week 1, and played through a knee issue late in the season.

The Giants gave Thomas a five-year, $117.5 million extension ($67 million guaranteed) before the 2023 season. That could keep him with the team through the 2029 season.

2024 outlook

This is simple. If Thomas is healthy he will play like one of the best left tackles in football, and that will go a long way toward helping the Giants offensive line be much-improved over the 2023 group.
