Mets trade Tyler Jay to Brewers for pitcher TJ Shook

The Mets were able to get something in return for Tyler Jay.

After designating the left-hander for assignment on Wednesday, the Mets traded him to the Brewers on Sunday for right-handed pitcher TJ Shook.

Shook, a 26-year-old minor leaguer, had a 4.90 ERA with 77 strikeouts in 64 ⅓ innings this season for Double-A Biloxi, making 11 starts and six relief appearances.

Shook has never pitched above Double-A.

Jay, 30, made his MLB debut with the Mets this season, giving up five runs (four earned) in 4 ⅔ innings across three appearances.

In 23 appearances for Triple-A Syracuse this season, Jay has a 2.40 ERA with 30 strikeouts in 41 ⅓ innings.

Jay previously pitched in the Twins and Reds organizations.
