Yankees will not play Old-Timers’ game for third straight year
If you’re still waiting for Derek Jeter to take his spot at shortstop in an Old-Timers’ Game, don’t hold your breath.
For a third straight year, the Yankees will not play an Old-Timers’ Day game during the event on Aug. 24.
Instead, the Yankees will honor the 15th anniversary of the 2009 World Series championship team.
While there won’t be a game again this season, it’s not being ruled out for future years.
Last year, the team held a Q&A with members of the 1998 World Series squad. And next year will be the 25th anniversary of the 2000 team that won the World Series.
But in years when there is no milestone to note, they may revisit playing.
The last time there was a game was in 2019 before the event was not held in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID.
In 2022, when the event returned, injuries to some of the Old-Timers prevented a game from occurring.
