Jets Practice Report | Rookie Olu Fashanu Takes Snaps at RT

Isaiah Davis Years Beyond His NFL Age
Situational football has been a focal point for the Jets throughout training camp.

On Monday, the team orchestrated a four-minute end-of game and two-minute end-of-half situation. In the four-minute session, the defense was down, 20-17, with one timeout remaining. The offense, set up on its 45-yard line, had to ice the game with a first down.

Aaron Rodgers and his group successfully converted as Rodgers got the defense to jump offside for a free play. Tyrod Taylor, on his first play, hit UDFA TE Lincoln Sefcik over the middle for a 25-yard catch-and-run up the sideline, but he stepped out of bounds and the defense did not have to burn its timeout.

On the next play, Taylor handed the ball to rookie RB Isaiah Davis, who saw traffic pile up on the left side of the line. He, like a seasoned vet, fluidly cut back to the right side where there was enough daylight to score. He slid after getting the first down instead.

“He’s a very smart young man,” HC Robert Saleh said. “There’s a lot of things that he does not only in practice, but some things he showed in the game that are next-level thinking that you would expect from third- and fourth-year guys. He’s a very smart young man – but football smart. There’s a lot of things he does very well and looking forward to seeing how he continues to evolve.”
