Jets’ Robert Saleh reveals if Aaron Rodgers and starters will play vs. Giants | Sporting News

The dress rehearsal was Wednesday’s joint practice.

As for the actual preseason game, the New York Jets will be holding their starters out when they close out the exhibition schedule against the Big Apple rival New York Giants on Saturday, August 24. Jets’ fourth-year head coach Robert Saleh revealed the plan for the preseason finale while addressing reporters prior to Thursday’s practice in Florham Park.

“It’s gonna be consistent with what we’ve done the first two games,” said Saleh. “[Quarterbacks] Adrian [Martinez] will take the first half this week and [Andrew] Peasley will take the second half.”

Jets starters and select veteran backups have not dressed for either of the team’s first two exhibition contests, and that is the plan again for Preseason Game No. 3. It contrasts with Saleh’s decision last summer when he sent Rodgers and the first-teamer an onto the field for the preseason finale at MetLife Stadium.

“Different reasons last year as compared to this year. I’m not gonna get into those, but I feel like we’ve gotten so much work done, so much good work, with three quality opponents over the last three weeks,” said Saleh.

Meanwhile, the Jets are holding a light practice on Thursday.

“We’ve kind of been simulating our in-season schedule, so yesterday was [treated like] a [regular season game week] Thursday. Today is a Friday. It’s kind of a fast Friday, redzone work. Get ’em in, get ’em out,” said Saleh.

The Jets will host the Giants in the game formerly known as the Snoopy Bowl on Saturday at 7:30 pm ET.
