Wilson and New York Sunshine Release Tennis-Inspired “Extra Duty” Collection

Coinciding with the US Open, sports goods manufacturer Wilson has teamed up with streetwear brand New York Sunshine for a tennis-inspired collection titled “Extra Duty”. The inspiration behind this collaboration comes from the typically overlooked workers who help put on the tennis matches that so many enjoy. Almost every item in the collection features the text “tennis court maintenance” printed on to pay tribute.

Starting this collection, a new iteration of the Pro Staff 87 sneaker from the 80s is brought back with tennis ball felt details in the instantly recognizable bright yellow. Next, a cap features the brands’ names embroidered with a yellow tennis ball print hammering home the theme.

The bag in this collection, an elevated sports drawstring bag, makes a statement as it comes in bright yellow and features silver detailing such as the embroidered Wilson logo an shoulder straps. Apparel includes a simple white tee, hoodie and sweatshirt that feature “tennis court maintenance pro staff” on the front and “extra duty” on the back in addition to the brands’ names.

Wilson has been a main player in the sporting goods industry for decades with its Extra Duty ball being the official ball of the US Open since 1978. A staple for tennis players throughout the years, it is the natural next step for Wilson to move to the fans.

The brands said in a statement, “The limited-edition Wilson x New York Sunshine collection is made to spotlight the hard work of the names not on the scoreboard. Behind the scenes. Before dawn. After hours. Without them, the biggest stage in tennis is just a park in Queens.”

The New York Sunshine x Wilson collection is available now on Wilson’s website and in select Wilson stores.
