Jessica Pegula, who grew up in Buffalo, NY, has made it into the finals of the US Open tennis tournament.

Pegula, 30, won her semifinal match Thursday night against Karolina Muchova, of the Czech Republic.

Earlier in the tournament, Pegula defeated the top-ranked player in the world, Poland’s Iga Swiatek.

The 6th-ranked Pegula will face off against the second-best tennis player in the world, Aryna Sabalenka, from Belarus.

The two played against each other last month at the Cincinnati Open, where Pegula lost to Sabalenka in two straight sets.

Saturday’s final at the US Open in New York City will be Pegula’s first time ever competing in a final at a grand slam tournament.

Pegula is the daughter of Kim and Terry Pegula, who own the Buffalo Bills NFL team and the Buffalo Sabres NHL team.
