US Open 2024 live updates: Frances Tiafoe wins third set vs. Taylor Fritz

Frances Tiafoe, playing in his second Grand Slam semifinal, takes the opening set 6-4 against his compatriot Taylor Fritz.

After Tiafoe started the match tight, losing the first three games, he rallied to win five of the next six games to take the early edge in the match.

One of the questions I had entering the match was Tiafoe’s serving. He’s started matches slowly with his serving, which he can’t afford to do this late in the tournament. After being broken in his first service game, Tiafoe served well, clocking at 63 percent and winning 80 percent of his first serve points.

Fritz needs to improve his serving in this match. He’s serving at 53 percent and only winning 67 percent of his first serve points.

Tiafoe gets the crowd energized, a big start for someone who’s lost the six previous matches against Fritz.
