New York Knicks Bold Predictions For 2024-25 Season

The New York Knicks are entering the 2024-25 NBA season with serious momentum. Both fans and the media hold the team in high regard after an exceptional season that ended in a Game 7 loss in the second round of the playoffs.

The front office and management share the same optimism, having made a blockbuster trade for Mikal Bridges to bolster the roster. However, the Knicks still have some ground to cover before fully satisfying their passionate fan base. Still, the case for optimism is undeniable.

The Knicks secured the No. 2 seed last season, their highest finish in nearly a decade. But it wasn’t just regular-season success. Despite missing Julius Randle for the entire playoff run—and dealing with more injuries along the way—they fought their way to that Game 7.

With an extra year of continuity and better health, the sky’s the limit for this version of the Knicks. With lofty expectations and a real chance to meet them, how will the 2024-25 season unfold for New York?

Top of the Eastern Conference

Last season, the Knicks were the No. 2 seed, and they’ve only gotten better. While the loss of Isaiah Hartenstein stings, the team’s versatility should compensate for it. The addition of Mikal Bridges, in particular, was a brilliant move.

Not only does it reunite Bridges with Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, and Donte DiVincenzo from their college days, but it also gives the Knicks one of the best perimeter defenders in the NBA and a complementary star.

Bridges, a 20-points-per-game scorer with the “other” New York team, is a true iron man who has never missed a game in his career. His style should fit perfectly with Tom Thibodeau’s rigorous system.

Beyond his availability, Bridges is one of the best two-way players in the game. Once a Defensive Player of the Year candidate, he now boasts a three-level offensive game that thrives both on and off the ball. Alongside Brunson and Randle, this trio should give the Knicks a legitimate boost.

With a stronger roster and better health, the Knicks should remain at, or near, the top of the Eastern Conference.

Jalen Brunson in MVP Discussions

As the Knicks’ regular-season success grows, expect Jalen Brunson to enter MVP conversations. Thanks to New York’s passionate fan base and media market, buzz for individual accolades will be loud. Last season, Brunson garnered some MVP momentum, and with a stronger year from the Knicks, that chatter will only intensify.

Brunson is coming off a career year, nearly averaging 29 points and seven assists per game while shooting 48% from the field and 40% from 3-point range. If he maintains those numbers and the Knicks improve, his MVP candidacy will be undeniable.

Even if he doesn’t win (Luka Dončić is likely the favorite), Brunson will firmly establish himself as one of the NBA’s elite. His talent is unquestionable, and his production is now catching up.

As the focal point of a strong Knicks team, expect Jalen Brunson’s name to be in MVP conversations throughout the season.

No Julius Randle Trade

The biggest question mark for the Knicks this year is Julius Randle. While he was the first of the current core to commit to New York, he’s now their most expendable piece.

Despite his consistent 22 points and 10 rebounds per game, his playoff struggles have raised concerns. For a team with championship aspirations, those struggles are a red flag. Additionally, his contract has yet to be extended, making his future with the team uncertain.

Although trade rumors continue to swirl, it’s likely Randle stays in New York. In the past, his playoff struggles were partly due to being the sole focus of opposing defenses. With the Knicks’ new weapons, that won’t be the case. Randle will have more room to operate, which could lead to better postseason performances.

Expect the Knicks to focus on smaller-scale moves, such as finding a quality backup center, rather than making another major trade.
