Cos’s New York Fashion Week Show Reads Like An Autumn Wish List
Wondering what to wear for the autumn/winter 2024 season? Cos proposes enveloping, oversized coats, boxy leather jackets, super-fine knits and billowing tailored trousers, all of which debuted on the retailer’s runway in New York on 10 September, alongside a host of accessory flourishes, including skinny patent belts, puffy quilted clutches, leather gloves and embellished pumps.
Cos has long specialised in capsule wardrobe pieces, and its new Atelier offering brought a directional spin to classic silhouettes. “We explored the contrast between structure and fluidity, inspired by the elegance of ballet and the fluidity of movement, while the interplay of rich textures and earthy tones reflects our connection to nature,” design director, Karin Gustafsson, tells Vogue.
A camel coat (look 20), featured the sort of design details you’d expect to see on a gabardine trench (plus an unexpected hood!), and was styled with green semi-sheer socks and gathered pumps; grey wide-leg tailored trousers (look 22), featured button-hold detail straps on the waistband; and a single-breasted blazer was moulded with scaled-up, angled-down shoulders (look 28).
Evening wear took on an alternative persona for the party period, with an intricate, knitted lace top paired with wrap-skirt effect; a dress in the same fine-knit fabrication was styled with a unitard underneath, and a fuzzy bustier, complete with a mesh skirt, pop socks, pumps, leather gloves and a quilted clutch, came several looks later. Proof that pumps are the party shoes du jour? The closing look, which comprised of a diaphanous black dress and the same pump/sock combination seen throughout.
The menswear seen in the show is also worth your attention. See: the tailored black coat from look 3; the thick, elephant-grey suit from look 7 and navy suit from look 9; the funnel-neck, shearling-trim leather jacket from look 26 and the tailored separates from look 35. Take your pick.
