New York Knicks Named ‘Natural Fit’ For This Talented Forward

The New York Knicks made headlines in the early stages of the NBA offseason, swinging a trade to acquire Mikal Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets.

However, since then, the Knicks have been relatively silent.

Due to financial constraints, New York has been unable to make any other significant moves. It actually lost big man Isaiah Hartenstein in free agency, leaving a rather gaping hole up front and weakening the interior defense.

So it should come as no surprise that Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus has named Detroit Pistons forward Isaiah Stewart as a “natural fit” for the Knicks.

But there is a catch: Pincus names Stewart as part of a potential return if the Knicks end up trading Julius Randle, who is entering the final year of team control on his deal.

Would Isaiah Stewart be a good fit for the Knicks?

Here’s the thing: Stewart is not much of an offensive threat. He can spread the floor a bit, but he is not the type of player who is going to be able to get his own shot consistently.

Last season with the Pistons, Stewart averaged 10.9 points and 6.6 rebounds over 30.9 minutes per game on 48.7/38.3/75.3 shooting splits.

Over the course of his four-year NBA career, the 23-year-old has logged 9.3 points a night.

Stewart excels on the defensive end of the floor and would be a great fit alongside of Randle, but it’s debatable as to whether or not he would represent an appropriate return if the Knicks move their big man.

Plus, unless there is a three-team trade and Randle goes elsewhere, it seems hard to imagine that a rebuilding Detroit squad would be all that interested in a player who is about to turn 30.
