New York Giants vs. Washington Commanders odds, expert picks, how to watch: Commanders favored, barely

The Washington Commanders remain a puzzling franchise that attracts controversy and mediocrity, but they are slightly favored at home vs. the New York Giants. The G-Men don’t have a chance of winning if they can’t get into the end zone for a second straight week.

The Giants are 15-6-1 against Washington over the last 11 seasons. But more importantly than that history, the Commanders are going to have to prove they can sustain defensive pressure. The defensive line only managed four QB hits and five pressures, combining for the second-lowest total in Week 1. Washington surrendered 392 total yards and permitted Baker Mayfield to go 24-for-30.

It doesn’t help that two defensive starters for the Commanders are dealing with injury. DT Jer’Zhan Newton is questionable to start, and CB Emmanuel Forbes Jr. is out.

In Daniel Jones, the Giants have an expensive QB who underperforms. The polarizing veteran signal-caller had a 44.3 passer rating (16.2 QBR) last week and fired two interceptions against the Vikings. He will probably have a better time finding an open receiver against the Commanders.

Giants’ head coach Brian Daboll felt the need to hand out a vote of confidence for his QB, telling the media last week that Jones will remain in his starting role. But the stakes are high: After this game against the lowly Commanders, Jones and the G-Men will face six consecutive games against teams that had winning records last season.

Searching for a trending player for the Giants-Commanders game? Commanders’ QB Jayden Daniels rushed for 88 yards, picked up eight first downs, and scored two touchdowns with his feet. If you can’t beat them through the air, go terra firma, right Dan Quinn?
