Donald Trump says he’s ‘safe and well’ after shots fired near his golf course in Florida

Donald Trump marked himself as “safe” after a suspect with an AK-47 opened fire near his Trump International Golf Course West Palm Beach on Sunday.

“There were gunshots in my vicinity, but before rumors start spiraling out of control, I wanted you to hear this first: I AM SAFE AND WELL,” the former US president wrote in a statement.

“Nothing will slow me down. I will NEVER SURRENDER! I will always love you for supporting me.”

Trump, 78, signed the statement, “Unity. Peace. Make America Great Again.”

The politician was moved to safety after security agents spotted the gunman close to where Trump was located on the links on Sunday around 2 p.m., insiders told The New York Post.

An officer opened fire and shot at the suspect several times. The suspect was later detained on I-95.

“President Trump is safe following gunshots in his vicinity. No further details at this time,” spokesperson Steven Cheung shared.

Vice President Kamala Harris also spoke out about the shooting via X on Sunday, writing, “I am glad he is safe.”

“Violence has no place in America,” she wrote.

Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate is about five miles away from the golf course.

The shooting comes after a failed assassination attempt against Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania on July 13, leaving him shot in the ear.

Police identified the suspect as Thomas Matthew Crooks, who was found more than 130 yards away from where Trump was speaking at the Butler Farm Show grounds. He was killed by Secret Service agents.
