Eli Manning on Pro Football Hall of Fame ballot

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – In his first year of eligibility to be on the ballot for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Eli Manning has made the list.

Manning is one of 16 first-time nominees on this year’s ballot, which also includes Luke Keuchly, Terrell Suggs, and Adam Vinateri.

Manning was drafted by the San Diego Chargers first overall in the 2004 NFL Draft, but before playing a snap for the Chargers, was traded to the New York Giants. Manning spent his entire 16-year career with the Giants.

In his 16 seasons, Manning passed for 57,023 regular yards, which currently sits tenth all-time in the NFL. He added 384 touchdowns; 366 passing and 18 rushing.

Manning made the post-season six times in his career with the Giants. In 12 post-season games, he threw for 2,815 yards and 18 touchdowns.

Manning and the Giants won Super Bowl XLII, upsetting the then-undefeated New England Patriots 17-14. The Giants and Patriots met once again in Super Bowl XLVI, and once again the Giants were victorious.

Manning is one of 13 quarterbacks in NFL history to win multiple Super Bowls. Eight of the nine currently eligible QBs are in the Hall of Fame; Jim Plunkett is the only exception. He is also one of six players to win multiple Super Bowl MVPs.

If Manning is elected into the Hall of Fame, he will join his older brother Peyton in Canton.

Pro Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee announces the new members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame during the NFL Honors ceremony, which usually takes place shortly before the Super Bowl.
