Jalen Brunson’s ascension to a New York Knicks superstar has quickly made him one of the most beloved New York athletes.

But playing for a passionate fanbase in New York City also comes with a price: hearing the opinions of fans who think they know best.

While appearing on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” alongside Josh Hart on Thursday, Brunson had a great response when Meyers asked him if New Yorkers ever share their opinions on the team with him.

“Absolutely,” Brunson said, laughing. “They’re like, ‘Tell Thibs this, tell Thibs [that].’

“I’m like, ‘You know what, I’m going to text him right now. I’ll text him right now.'”

It’s a small price to pay, however, for the excitement that follows when the Knicks are good. Brunson hasn’t experienced too many down times, as his arrival in New York helped spark the team’s resurgence. Still, Brunson told Meyers that it’s “unreal” to feel the “electricity” in Madison Square Garden and the city when the Knicks are winning.

More of that should follow this season, as the Knicks are expected to be among the best teams in the Eastern Conference. After Brunson was named captain for one of the most successful playoff runs in league history and committed to staying with the Knicks on a discount price, he should feel lots of love from the city.

He’ll also have to hear fans’ opinions on the team.
