Pace baseball alum Brandon Sproat continues to earn recognition within the New York Mets organization.

Sproat, who is wrapping up his first year of professional baseball within the Mets’ minor league system, has been named New York’s minor league Pitcher of the Year after steadily rising through the ranks from Single-A to Triple-A baseball during the year.

Sproat is currently ranked 37th in the MLB Pipeline Top 100, and is the top prospect the Mets currently have. Across all of baseball, he’s the 10th-highest pitching prospect.

Just a month ago, Sproat was ranked 97th in the Pipeline.

“It’s been a ton of fun and it’s been a roller coaster,” Sproat said during a rececnt press conference. “Of the different things I’ve learned at each level, I think my favorite thing (has been) meeting every different guy at each level, but especially Triple-A. Talking to the older guys, picking their brain, kind of seeing what they went through and the adversity that they go through, how they how they go about it, and then the Triple-A coaches. I think this year has been a great year for me and I couldn’t be more pleased with myself.”

The former Florida Gator has been with Triple-A Syracuse since Aug. 6. He has a 1-2 record in seven games, recording 28 2/3 innings with 21 strikeouts. Sproat’s surrendered just 11 walks, 36 hits and 24 earned runs with a earned-runs against average of 7.53.

Sproat quickly rose to prominence after impressing with both Single-A Brooklyn and Double-A Binghamton. In a total of 24 games, Sproat has compiled a 7-4 record with a 3.40 ERA, recording an impressive 131 strikeouts (77 of which came with Binghamton in just 62 1/3 innings).

Sproat is a two-time PNJ All-Area First Team selection from his days at Pace, and was an All-State team selection his senior season. In 2019, Sproat went 5-2 with a 1.53 ERA and 53 strikeouts. That was preceded by a 10-4 record with a 1.78 ERA during his junior season, when he led the Patriots to the Class 7A State Championship game.

Sproat played college baseball at Florida where he had a combined 19-8 record in 56 appearances over the course of four seasons. He struck out 242 batters in 223 2/3 innings. He also saw action in the postseason for Florida last year, including in the College World Series against both Virginia and Louisiana State.

Sproat is on the Mets’ radar as a possible player in New York’s rotation during the 2025 season.
