NY Times: Rep. D’Esposito hired mistress & fiancée’s daughter to taxpayer-funded jobs

A bombshell New York Times article accuses Long Island Rep. Anthony D’Esposito of possibly breaking House ethics rules by giving taxpayer-funded jobs to his alleged mistress and his fiancée’s daughter. Both allegedly worked in D’Esposito’s district office.

The paper says Rep. D’Esposito has not been publicly accused of wrongdoing, but he could face discipline in the House of Representatives.

Rep. D’Esposito released a statement, saying, “The latest political tabloid garbage being peddled by ‘The New York Times’ is nothing more than a slimy, partisan ‘hit piece’ designed to distract Long Islanders from Democrats’ failing record on border security, the economy and foreign policy. My personal life has never interfered with my ability to deliver results for New York’s Fourth District, and I have upheld the highest ethical standards of personal conduct. Voters deserve better than the Times’ gutter politics.”

Nassau County Republican Party Chairman Joseph Cairo wrote, “Nassau residents are too smart to fall for the New York Times’ politically motivated and baseless mud-slinging, which has been heaped in the direction of a respected Member of Congress. Indeed, Congressman Anthony D’Esposito refuses to be distracted from his mission of fixing the border crisis and providing real tax relief for Long Islanders. Meanwhile, his opponent proposed hiking town taxes, and she was the only vote against a Hempstead Town tax cut. No wonder voters who want lower taxes and safer communities support Anthony D’Esposito for Congress.”

The report comes as D’Esposito is in a tight race for reelection against Democrat Laura Gillen.
