Stop the Presses: Fresh Prints at the Seaport Will Take You on a Printing Trip Through Time – Downtown Alliance

Fans of fonts, parchment and the high seas are in for a treat on October 3, when the Downtown Alliance collaborates with the South Street Seaport Museum for a special edition of the museum’s Fresh Prints event.

Established in 1775, the original Bowne & Co., Inc. was one of New York’s oldest printing firms. Today, Bowne & Co. (211 Water St.) is an offshoot of the original and continues the age-old tradition of small batch printing.

From 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Fresh Prints attendees have the opportunity to explore Bowne & Co.’s collection of printing equipment. You’ll get to see how the designers at Bowne typeset designs from some of the more eccentric parts of the Seaport Museum’s printing and graphic arts collection. You’ll also be able to make your own custom print! And if printing isn’t really your thing, you can engage with the Seaport’s maritime history by learning how to play yard games like line tossing and horseshoes on historic Water Street.

The event is free to attend, though registration, which you can do here, is required. Light bites and your own printed keepsake are included.
