Former NBA MVP Derrick Rose retires from basketball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Former 2011 NBA MVP, Derrick Rose is retiring from basketball.
The former first-overall pick is the youngest MVP in NBA History.
Rose was part of the legendary 2008 Memphis Tigers basketball team that reached the National Championship against Kansas.
The former Memphis Tiger standout won the 2009 Rookie of the Year and was named a three-time All-Star.
Rose released a statement to social media:
Rose played 15 seasons, averaging 17.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 5.2 assists a game.
He played for the Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks, Minnesota Timberwolves, Cleveland Cavaliers, Detroit Pistons, and most recently the Memphis Grizzlies.
Rose finished his career playing 24 games with the Grizzlies, averaging 8 points and 3 assists per game, before being waived by the team on September 23.
