Attention Kmart shoppers: New York full-size store is closing

Come late October there won’t be any more blue light specials happening at one of the last two full-size Kmart stores.

The retailer is closing its Bridgehampton, New York, store on Oct. 20, according to a New York Post report citing a WJAR report.

Kmart, founded in 1962, once had been one of the most iconic and well known department stores with over 2,000 locations across the U.S. But increasing competition online, from Amazon, and in the brick and mortar space, from Walmart and Target, edged out the Kmart brand.

As of April 2022 Kmart had just three locations operating in the U.S.

Yet Kmart locations will remain open in Guam and the US Virgin Islands and there is still one other U.S. location in Miami.
