For the first time ever, the Bengali Club USA held its inaugural Durga Puja celebration in Times Square on October 5-6, 2024. This time, NYC-based NRIs no longer had to celebrate Durga Puja over video chats as they could attend the event in-person. Many people took to their social media handles to shares glimpses from the extravagant pandals set up at Times Square.

Instagram influencer, Ruchika Jain, shared a video on her Instagram handle as she asked her followers to join in the festivities. In the video, she described all the ceremonies and activities scheduled for the two-day festival.

“The Bengali Club USA proudly presents the vibrant celebration of Durga Puja on October 5-6, 2024. Experience traditional festivities, cultural performances, and a sense of community as we honor this cherished festival. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to immerse yourself in Indian culture right in the heart of New York City,” she wrote in the caption.

Many people shares glimpses of the pandal on their X handles. The Pujo began on October 6 with Nabami Puja and Durga Stotram. Following this, the guests took part in the Nabami Puja Anjali. The celebrations finally concluded with Dashami Puja and Anjali. This ritual allowed followers to say goodbye to the Goddess while cherishing her.

The historic Sindur Khela also took place in Times Square. This rite underlined the festival’s theme of togetherness and community.

Meanwhile, there are many other countries that celebrate Durga Puja. For instance, in the United Kingdom, Navratri is celebrated with great enthusiasm in cities like London, Leicester and Birmingham. Various cultural groups organize events and garba parties. These events serve as an opportunity for promoting cultural exchange. In Australia, people of Indian community come together and celebrate the festival with great fervor. Multiple dandiya raas events are organized by cultural groups. The venues are donned with colourful decorations, lively music, creating a festive atmosphere.
