In Patchogue, hospital achieves provisional Trauma II status | Long Island Business News
Patchogue-based Long Island Community Hospital, LICH, is now a provisional Level II trauma center. Ahead of its merger with NYU Langone, the hospital was awarded the Level II provisional designation by the New York State Department of Health. LICH is currently awaiting verification by the American College of Surgeons, which is planned for next year.
The designation enables LICH to expand its acute care services, addressing the needs of the hospital and Suffolk County communities. It can now provide care for all adult trauma patients, regardless of severity.
“Achieving the designation as a Level II trauma center is a testament to our unwavering commitment to expanding our services and providing the highest-quality care for the most severely injured patients in the community,” Dr. Jerry Rubano, regional director of Trauma for NYU Langone Hospital— Long Island, said in a news release about the designation.
“Our local EMS partners no longer need to drive further to address critical patients in need. These patients can now receive the comprehensive care they require in a shorter amount of time, which has a tremendous impact on outcomes,” Rubano added.
Under Rubano, in-hospital surgeons, anesthesiologists and other team members can provide immediate care. The team includes orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, radiologists, interventional radiologists, urologists, thoracic surgeons and advanced practice providers.
