New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers says he doesn’t remember the collision that resulted in him sustaining a serious concussion leading him to miss the past two weeks of action.
Nabers is set to return to the field this week to take on the division rival Philadelphia Eagles after recovering from a hit he sustained while trying to catch a pass from quarterback Daniel Jones.
‘It was scary when I couldn’t remember what happened,’ Nabers said, according to ESPN. ‘I can’t remember the last play I was in, so yeah, it was kind of scary.
‘Last thing I remember was [Jones] throwing me the ball. That was it.’
Nabers added that he experienced headaches and throbbing in his head after the collision but did not specify any other symptoms. It’s believed to be his first known concussion.

Nabers cleared concussion protocol on Thursday and was limited in practice on Friday stemming from a groin issue that dates back to his time in college.
Giants coach Brian Daboll says that Nabers’ groin ‘tightened up’ during practice on Thursday so they limited him out of precaution. The receiver was not given an injury designation and expects to be able to handle his workload.
While he was in concussion protocol, Nabers took criticism for attending a Travis Scott concert with teammate Isaiah Simmons.
The receiver says that he told the Giants that he was attending the concert prior to going and did not reveal the team’s reaction.
‘Yeah, I’m going to always be myself,’ he said. ‘I mean, that’s the life that I chose to live. It’s what comes with the job. But at the end of the day, I still got my own life.
‘I still got my own personal life, so I’m going to continue to have my own personal life. I’m going to still continue to watch my back and I’m going to still continue to have my personal life.’
When asked about the criticism he’s received, Nabers said, ‘I mean, that’s their business. If they researched about what caused a concussion, what makes it worse, and on the internet if they say it’s the lights, hearing [loud noises], then that’s on them.’
‘I didn’t face anything with the lights. They asked me if I had problem with lights, I told them no. Having problems with the sound, I told them no. … I’ve been playing loud music since I’ve known [about] the concussion in the car.
After missing two weeks, Nabers is set to return for the game on Sunday against Philadelphia
‘I go out with the lights on. I played the game with lights. So I mean, I didn’t have anything with my eyes. It wasn’t making my head hurt. Sound wasn’t making my head hurt. So I was fine.’
In the games he has played, Nabers has been a bright spot for the Giants inconsistent offense.
Despite playing two fewer games than his veteran teammates, Nabers is still the team’s leader in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns.
