Philadelphia Eagles at New York Giants odds, expert picks, how to watch: A Saquon Barkley revenge game?

Saquon Barkley faces his former team for the first time when the Philadelphia Eagles head to MetLife Stadium to take on the New York Giants in Week 7. The Eagles are road favorites for this critical NFC East showdown.

Motivation wasn’t going to be an issue for Barkley headed into this game. But he ran for a season-low 47 yards in Philadelphia’s (3-2) 20-16 home win over the Cleveland Browns last week, so he’ll certainly want to pile up the stats against his former team.

New York (2-4) won’t roll out the welcome mat for Barkley, and the defense has more than held its own despite the team’s record. The Giants are 10th in the league in scoring defense (20.2 points per game) and have given up an average of 93 rushing yards per game over its last four contests.

The Eagles’ offense got a big boost coming out of the bye last week with the return of wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, but the loss of starting left tackle Jordan Mailata (hamstring injury) could impact the entire operation. Of particular concern will be protection for quarterback Jalen Hurts. New York is No. 1 in the NFL with 26 sacks, led by Dexter Lawrence II’s seven.

Meanwhile, offense continues to be a sore spot for the Giants, particularly scoring points. Quarterback Daniel Jones has been up and down throughout this season and is coming off another disappointing showing in a 17-7 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals this past Sunday night.

The good news for Jones is that first-round pick Malik Nabers should be back after missing the past two games because of a concussion. Philadelphia has fared better against the pass (220.6 yards per game, 14th in the league) compared to the run (146.2, 27th), so Nabers’ return couldn’t come at a better time. This is a pivotal contest for both teams, considering just two games separate the entire NFC East.
