NFL Week 7 power rankings: The rankings fluctuate for the New York Giants

Following a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday afternoon, the New York Giants are now 2-5 on the season and a disappointing 0-4 on their home field.

While the Giants continue to be considered among the league’s worst teams, the media’s ranking of them following Week 7 action fluctuates. While some media outlets are a bit higher on the Giants (being ranked as high as No. 23), others believe they are among the two worst teams in the league (even though they have a better record than some teams ranked ahead of them).

Check out below where the media ranks the New York Giants this week:

The Athletic– No. 23

Coach Brian Daboll replaced Daniel Jones with Drew Lock in the fourth quarter. Maybe it was because the Giants were trailing by 25 points. Maybe it was because Daboll figured that was Jones’ fault. After some brief moments of hope this season, Jones took a step back Sunday, completing 14 passes for 99 yards and failing to get the Giants into the end zone. With Pittsburgh and Washington next, the Giants’ season could be over by midseason.

CBS Sports– No. 25

The ugly loss to the Eagles brings back into focus the talk that Brian Daboll could be in trouble. Daniel Jones wasn’t very good, either, as he was benched.

Bleacher Report- No. 26

The Giants can fool you when they play against mediocre or basement-dwelling teams because they’re well-coached.

However, when the Giants step up in weight class, you immediately see the difference between them and the opponent, specifically in the quarterback battle.

Over the last two weeks against the Cincinnati Bengals and Philadelphia Eagles, Daniel Jones hasn’t thrown a touchdown pass. The Giants benched him Sunday, and they’ll probably do it again (permanently) next time. — Moton

ESPN.com– No. 26

Young riser: CB Dru Phillips

A third-round pick earlier this year, Phillips has been one of the most productive defensive backs in the league. He’s tied for second on the Giants with six tackles for a loss as the nickel cornerback and has given up only 50 receiving yards as the nearest defender on 12 targets, according to Next Gen Stats. General manager Joe Schoen lauded Phillips’ physicality and aggressiveness coming out of Kentucky. It seems to be translating to the NFL. Phillips, 22, has a chance to be one of the league’s best nickel corners. — Jordan Raanan

The Giants sat Daniel Jones in the fourth quarter Sunday vs. the Eagles for Drew Lock. Brian Daboll said right away Jones is still the starter. But once that process starts, it won’t be too much longer before the Giants make the move if things don’t turn around.

Sports Illustrated– No. 27

We have entered a dark phase of the Giants’ season. I know I point this out every week but there’s a world where this team is 4–3 with wins over Joe Burrow and Jayden Daniels and it doesn’t even take a lot of fuzzy math to get there. Alas, we’re now in the QB-change-for-a-spark era which, in the New York market, is a perilous and unenjoyable place to be.
