The 2024-25 NBA season tips off with two games Tuesday night, the first featuring the New York Knicks traveling to Boston to take on the reigning NBA champion Celtics.
The following matchup features a tilt between Western Conference contenders Los Angeles Lakers versus the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Knicks are coming off their first 50-win season since 2013-14. Following a second consecutive conference semifinals exit in the playoffs, the front office decided to shake things up this offseason.
During the 2024 NBA Draft in June, the Knicks resigned forward O.G. Anunoby to a five-year, $212.5 million deal, the largest in team history, and acquired Mikal Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Bojan Bogdanovic, four unprotected first-round picks and a protected first-round selection from the Milwaukee Bucks less than 48 hours apart from one another.
If that wasn’t enough, the Knicks then traded Julius Randle, Donte DiVincenzo, Keita Bates-Diop and a future first-round pick (via Pistons) to the Minnesota Timberwolves for New Jersey’s own Karl-Anthony Towns in a three-team trade with the Charlotte Hornets earlier this month.
With the third-shortest odds (+650) to win their first NBA championship in 51 years and the third highest over/under win total (53.5 wins) in the league (odds via BetMGM as of Oct. 22), it’s clear the time is now for the Knicks.
