Boston Celtics 132-109 New York Knicks: Boston Celtics dismantle the New York Kicks in incredible shooting performance

The long awaited start to the NBA season has arrived with champions Boston Celtics welcoming the new and improved New York Knicks.

Boston’s Jayson Tatum starred with 37 points and 10 assists in a heavy blow out win which saw the Celtics win 132-109

From the get go the Boston Celtics looked electric and showed a dominating display at the TD Garden the shooting that was on display was immense at around 60% from three before the fourth quarter.

It was not a case of the Knicks being bad at all, with them shooting above 50% field all game and at times 60% it was just the class of the champs and the volume of threes they shot.

The Celtics made history by scoring the joint most three pointers in one game after shooting 29 joining the previous record which was held by the Milwaukee Bucks.

Jayson Tatum clearly had something to prove, after travelling to Paris for the Olympics but hardly being used by his coaches despite finishing sixth in MVP voting and winning a championship with people naming this at his “Revenge Tour”.

Jaylen Brown is also in the same boat after he was snubbed of a Olympic spot and responded by posting on X questioning why he was not picked after winning a championship and winning finals MVP.

Story of the game

First half

The game started where the champs season left off with three after three after three, an incredible first quarter for Jayson Tatum.

For the Knicks it was a problem hitting threes as they only made one in the whole of the first quarter compared to the Celtics ten.

The second quarter was no different with Celtics raining threes onto the Knicks and getting key offensive rebounds which helped the Celtics out getting second chance points.

But sparks of Jalen Brunson and Miles McBride meant that Knicks stayed with touching distance at half time.

The field goal percentage showed that the Knicks were not playing bad  as they were shooting 57.9% from the field it was just there three point shooting letting them down at just 28.6%.

As well as that they had the Celtics shooting 53.1% from three and breaking their franchise record in threes made in the first half which was mainly down do the incredible offense they have on show.

Second half

The second half started no different with Celtics and Jayson Tatum shooting so efficiently from beyond the arch and just making themselves unstoppable for the Knicks.

It must have been so frustrating for the Knicks as they were shooting around 60% from the field and still trailing by around 25 points  because of how well the Celtics are set up and good everyone on their roster can shoot.

The whole of the third quarter was the Knicks making shots trying to get a good stretch and cut the lead but would then to face a Celtics onslaught of threes.

To start the final quarter of the game Celtics joined history scoring the joint most three pointers in a single game, they then failed to score a three for the last seven minutes of the game and missed more than 10 three point shots in a row only tying the record.

Both teams would put their bench unit on with around seven minutes left of the game showing that the game was over.

The first game of the 2024/25 NBA season showed why the Celtics were NBA champions last year and showed by keeping the same core they will be looking to go back to back.

The new Knicks players were not at their best tonight especially Miles Bridges who just could not find his shooting form for the first half but would find it later on the game need time to develop and grow a connection with there new teammates.

For the Knicks they will be looking to integrate their new players into the team which will take time so getting blow out by the Celtics should be nothing to worry about.
