Former Boston Celtics guard drawing interest from Knicks
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, former Boston Celtics guard Matt Ryan is reportedly drawing interest from the New York Knicks. Despite his limited NBA experience, Ryan is a 41.1% 3-point shooter at the NBA level and would add some much-needed floor spacing to Tom Thibodeau’s rotation.
New York currently has 12 players under contract on its main roster. Finding cheap talent to help round out the back end of the bench will be vital for the Knicks. The challenge is ensuring that talent is good enough to fill spot minutes when required. Ryan spent last season with the New Orleans Pelicans, averaging 5.4 points and 1.4 rebounds while shooting 45.1% on 3.3 perimeter attempts per game.
Ryan would likely compete with Landry Shamet for playing time. He would follow Kemba Walker and Evan Fournier, two former Celtics who joined Thibodeau’s project in New York. However, neither of them managed to make a significant impact on the franchise.
Nevertheless, after New York’s mauling at the hands of the Celtics, finding valuable contributors to add depth to the rotation will be key, as Thibodeau needs more options at his disposal.
