ESPN BET’s betting handle in NY dropped to .1 million for the week ending on October 13

On Thursday night, the New York Gaming Commission released its figures for sports betting week over week. The nine operators across the state saw $548.3 million in wagers for the week ending October 13. Despite the state having a handle of over half a billion, ESPN BET still saw its figure decline. ESPN BET’s $8.1 million wagers for the week ending on October 13 was down 6% from the previous week.

That was $943,600 less than the $9.1 million in the first full week of action in New York. Their first full week of business started on September 30 and ended on October 6. For the week ending on October 13, ESPN BET’s betting handle was only 1.5% of the total wagers. In 146 months of legal wagering, this was New York’s second-highest for mobile betting. Additionally, this was the ninth time New York surpassed half a billion in the handle.

The New York Yankees and New York Mets were both playing in their respective championship series. This helped draw betting action to ESPN BET’s online sportsbook in New York. Aaron Judge and the Yankees have made it to the World Series and they clinched the AL pennant last week. Mobile sportsbooks claimed only $10.4 million to pay out to winning tickets. Their fifth-lowest total since mobile sports betting was legalized in January 2022 across the Empire State.

How did other mobile operators fare for the week ending on October 13?

For the ninth time in their history, FanDuel surpassed $200 million in weekly wagers. They accepted $207.9 million in handle for the week ending on October 13. That turned out to be FanDuel’s seventh-largest weekly handle all-time in New York. However, their 2.83% hold was their lowest since the week ending on December 18, 2022. The industry leader finished that year with $5.9 million in revenue.

While FanDuel thought they had a low win rate, DraftKings’ was even worse. Their 0.8% win rate for the week ending on October 13 was a new low for 2024. DraftKings finished with less than $1.5 million in revenue from a $198.3 million handle. This was DraftKings’ fourth-largest weekly betting handle in New York all-time.

Fanatics Sportsbook had a 5.6% hold and a $40.3 million handle. They finished in second place with a handle of $2.3 million. This was the second time in four weeks that Fanatics had at least $40 million in accepted wagers. ESPN BET’s 7.1% hold was the highest of any operator for the week ending on October 13. In three-plus weeks of operation in NY, ESPN BET has accepted $29 million worth of wagers.
