Falconer, Randolph Advance In Class C
FALCONER — In the gauntlet that is the Section VI Class C volleyball bracket, No. 6 Falconer got off on the right foot with a 25-10, 25-15, 25-14 sweep of Allegany-Limestone in the prequarterfinals Monday.
Emily Zaranek led the Golden Falcons with 20 kills and two blocks; Hannah Melquist dealt out 32 assists to go along with four kills, two aces and two blocks; Mylie Zaranek recorded seven kills and four aces; Kaylee Green picked up four kills and two aces; and Nylah Sharpe added 15 digs.
Falconer (16-3) will travel to No. 3 Royalton-Hartland (12-3) on Wednesday for a quarterfinal matchup.
CARDINALS SWEEP
BUFFALO — Donnilynn Sheldon had eight kills and Aliza Hind handed out 16 assists to go along with five aces as No. 9 Randolph swept No. 8 Leonardo DaVinci 25-8, 25-7, 25-5 in a Class C prequarterfinal at Waterfront Elementary School.
Skylar Herington had six kills and 11 aces for the Cardinals, who will visit No. 1 Portville for a quarterfinal Wednesday.
TROJANS TRIUMPH
WEST ELLICOTT — Bella Sirianni handed out 26 assists and three kills as No. 7 Southwestern swept No. 10 JFK 25-10, 25-17, 25-9 in the Class B2 prequarterfinals.
Siri DuBois scored 10 kills and six aces for the Trojans; Madie Burnett had six kills; Payton Swartz served five aces; Reagan Stutzman contributed three kills and three blocks; and Elise Kartesz added four aces. Southwestern (9-8) will travel to No. 2 Health Sciences (15-5) on Wednesday for a quarterfinal matchup.
DUNKIRK ELIMINATED
CHEEKTOWAGA — Yuleisy Cruz had five kills and five digs for No. 11 Dunkirk, but No. 6 Maryvale swept the Marauders 25-21, 25-23, 25-17 in a Class B1 prequarterfinal.
The Marauders finish their season with a 1-19 record.
HORNETS HOLD OFF EAGLES
FORESTVILLE — Megan Gruber scored seven kills, an ace and three digs to lead No. 8 Forestville past No. 9 North Collins 27-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-16 in the Class D prequarterfinals.
Kaitie LoManto dealt out 13 assists, a kill, a block, nine aces and a dig for the Hornets; Iris Muck had five kills, two blocks and an ace; and Carilene Sliwa added four kills and a dig.
Forestville (5-13) advances to take on No. 1 Clymer (13-5) in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
North Collins was led by Zoe Kreinheder with seven kills, eight assists and six aces; Erin Barker had four kills, four blocks and four aces; Morgan Kreinheder contributed three kills, three blocks, three aces and a dig; and Ashley Niefergold made three kills, an assist, two aces and a dig. The Eagles finish the year with a 4-12 record.
BLACK KNIGHTS ADVANCE
BUFFALO — No. 13 Silver Creek swept No. 4 MST 25-10, 25-12, 25-7 in a Class C prequarterfinal.
The Black Knights will travel to No. 12 Cattaraugus-Little Valley for a Wednesday quarterfinal.
T’WOLVES SWEEP
WILSON — No. 12 Cattaraugus-Little Valley swept No. 5 Wilson 25-18, 27-25, 25-11 in a Class C prequarterfinal.
The Timberwolves will host No. 13 Silver Creek on a quarterfinal Wednesday.
SALAMANCA ELIMINATED
MIDDLEPORT — No. 3 Royalton-Hartland swept No. 14 Salamanca 25-9, 25-9, 25-19 in a Class C prequarterfinal.
Joelle Jimerson had two aces and three assists; Hadleigh Krug had an ace and three digs; and Skyla Dowdy had four digs and an ace for the Warriors.
The Rams will host No. 6 Falconer in a Wednesday quarterfinal.
RED & GREEN SWEPT
CLARENCE — No. 7 Clarence swept No. 10 Jamestown 25-12, 25-13, 25-10 in the Class AA prequarterfinals.
The Red & Green finish the year with a 2-13 record.
ELLICOTTVILLE MOVES ON
ELLICOTTVILLE — Ande Northrup handed out 18 assists to go along with six digs and two kills as No. 6 Ellicottville swept No. 11 Maple Grove 25-16, 25-13, 25-18 in a Class D prequarterfinal.
Natalee Leiper had 10 kills and nine digs, while Izzy Colburn and Riley Whitmer combined for 13 aces for the Eagles, who will travel to No. 3 Panama for a Wednesday quarterfinal.
BROCTON BEATS PANTHERS
SOUTH DAYTON — No. 10 Brocton swept No. 7 Pine Valley 25-17, 25-18, 25-19 in a Class D prequarterfinal.
The Bulldogs will travel to No. 2 Westfield for a Wednesday quarterfinal.
For the Panthers, Ava West had three kills and seven digs; Danica Farnham had three assists, 11 digs and two blocks; and Madilynn Robertson had five assists and four digs.
