Prediction and betting odds for New York Knicks at Houston Rockets, Nov. 4

The Rockets are 1-0 this season as an underdog and 2-3 as a favorite. On Monday versus the Knicks (-3.5), they return to that underdog role.

The Houston Rockets (3-3) continue their 2024-25 regular season with Monday’s home game versus the New York Knicks. It’s the midpoint of a three-game homestand at Toyota Center.

This will be the first time the Knicks (3-2) have visited Houston since a controversial loss last February. In that one, the game resulted in a protest due to a controversial last-second shooting foul by Jalen Brunson (later deemed incorrect by the NBA) against Houston’s Aaron Holiday.

That protest was denied by the league office, as most are, but it certainly left some lingering hard feelings and frustration.

As for Monday’s rematch (projected lineups), New York has a slightly different look to its 2024-25 squad. That traces back to the blockbuster offseason trade that brought in Karl-Anthony Towns while sending out Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo to Minnesota.

For the Rockets, the hosts are looking to take out some frustration of their own after falling just short in Saturday’s historic comeback bid versus Golden State.

Prediction and Picks for Knicks at Rockets:

The Rockets are 1-0, straight up, as an underdog in the 2024-25 regular season. They are 2-3 as favorites. In the aftermath of Saturday’s bizarre overtime loss to the Warriors — in which Houston lost the first half by 28 points before winning the second half by an equal margin — head coach Ime Udoka shared frustrations regarding his team’s inability to put two good halves together for most of the season.

The one exception to that general trend was in Houston’s lone matchup to date against a bonafide contender, which came in last Thursday’s road win at Dallas. Our hunch is that seeing another legit contender like the Knicks could bring out that same form, especially with emerging star Tari Eason now proving that he’s capable of handling a larger workload for the Rockets.

The Rockets haven’t played since Saturday’s frustrating loss to the Warriors, and they’ve been in Houston the whole time. The Knicks have been off since Friday’s 30-point win in Detroit. Both sides should be relatively fresh on Monday, and those fresh legs could help on jump shots — which could make the “over” a tempting bet, as both teams aggressively chase an early season win. (Each team is also off on Tuesday, so conserving minutes shouldn’t be a major consideration.)
